Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a chronic skin condition of an autoimmune nature characterized by the loss of melanin-producing cells or melanocytes, resulting in the appearance of depigmented areas on the skin in the form of patches that contrast with those that are pigmented, this alteration being the distinctive feature of the disease.

It is estimated that between 0.5 and 2% of the world’s population suffer from it. It affects men and women equally, but it has been shown to be more common in people with dark skin; the countries with the highest incidence of vitiligo are India, Japan and Mexico.

In 1993 a group of researchers from the University of Amsterdam proposed the convergence theory, according to which vitiligo is a multifactorial disorder in which genetic predisposition, autoimmunity, oxidative stress and psychic factors such as the death of a loved one, economic, work and family problems or a sentimental breakup converge.

As with other health problems, in cases of vitiligo, we must start by correcting intestinal dysbiosis by following a four-week intestinal cleansing protocol with the aim of reducing the level of inflammation throughout the body, as inflammation accelerates the death of melanocytes. This is evidenced by the fact that, on occasions, trauma, burns, abrasions, surgical procedures, insect bites or skin infections produce depigmentation in the affected area, which in dermatology is known as the Koebner phenomenon. It is possible to slow down the progress of the disease through nutritional supplementation and even achieve, at least partially, a repigmentation of the affected areas
